
Dr. Bredeson is Professor and Chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department. He
received his BSEE and MSEE degrees from North Dakota State at Fargo, North Dakota in 1962
and 1963, respectively. He received his Ph. D. from Northwestern University at Evanston,
Illinois in 1967.
He has taught at The Pennsylvania State University, University of Oklahoma, and
University of Alabama before coming to Texas Tech as Chairman. He was also Head of
Electrical Engineering at the University of Alabama.
Dr. Bredeson's teaching interests are in the areas of communication, computers, digital
systems, electronics, circuits, digital signal processing and local area networks. He has
taught in almost all areas of electrical engineering in the last 30 years at the various
universities. His research interests include coding theory, logical design, switching
theory, fault detection, digital systems, sequential machines, computers, data
communications, queueing theory and communication networks.. Throughout his career, and
Dr. Bredeson has supervised seven Ph.D. students and 43 MSEE students.
He has consulted for both industry and the federal government, and is a Registered
Professional Engineer in the State of Oklahoma and Alabama. Dr. Bredeson has served as
member of the Administrative Committee of the IEEE Education Society, Chair of McGraw Hill
Millman Award Committee, Chairman of the Southeastern Signals and Systems Conference and
as a member of the IEEE Fellows Committee.. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi, Eta
Kappa Nu, and Tau Beta Pi. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
Dr. Bredeson and his wife, Cheryl, each have two children living in different parts of the country.. His hobbies include flying, softball, and basketball.
